For Father's Day 2018 Austin asked me to keep Sunday-Tuesday open. He had planned for us to hike the Sierra Buttes Fire Lookout Trail. The original fire lookout hut was built in 1915 on the precipice of one of the Sierra Buttes near Sierra City, CA. The trailhead is within walking distance of the famous Downieville downhill mountain bike trail. Four segments of fully exposed steep stairs allowing non-mountain climbers access to the hut was constructed by five clearly amazing people in the summer of 1965. The hut's elevation is 8,587 feet.

For Father’s day 2018, Austin planned a surprise trip to hike the Sierra Buttes Fire Lookout Trail near Sierra City, CA. We stayed at the PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn. It snowed in Squaw Valley the day before we arrived, and snowed in the high country the night before the hike. Subsequently the snow seen at high elevation below is fresh, in June!
