Monday July 17, 2017. Austin and I headed up the Shirley Canyon Trail in Squaw Valley, CA. The "trail" starts at 6200' elevation and terminates at High Camp, elevation 8200'. Options for getting down are a free ride on the Squaw Valley tram, or hike back down. Although we intended on taking the tram back (it was already after 4p when we started up), the tram had stopped running for the day when we "summited". My bad. So we hiked down a couple of the ski runs. Took about 1.5 hours to walk down. Squaw Valley ski resort is really big. The creek is seasonal and fed solely from snow run off. We have hiked this trail in the past when by mid-summer the stream is a trickle or not running at all. But not this year!
The "summit" is up and over this false ridge. Very steep on the final ascent.
